This month, Light & Life Magazine looks at women in ministry. The feature article reminds us that the Free Methodist Church has validated women in ministry since 1891 when Bishop B.T. Roberts published, "Ordaining Women." Roberts actually advocated women's ordination since 1861 and did so until his death. Finally, in 1974, the Free Methodist Church passed a resolution to give women equal status with men in the ministry. My friend, Marti Ensign, was one of the first women ordained in that group! Marti is a kick...full of energy and compassion. She helped me through a difficult time during my journey to become an ordained pastor.
Over the years, I've spoken about women in ministry, especially at the NW Ministry Conference in Redmond, WA. As an ordained pastor in the Free Methodist Church this topic is dear to my heart and I applaud Light & Life for tackling the issue.
I'm also grateful to Jeff Finley, managing editor, for inviting me to be part of the discipleship section. My article, "A Great Call Requires Great Character," discusses that everyone has a unique God-given story to tell. My article concludes with the following,
"Great character develops in Jesus’ presence—especially during trials. Jesus victoriously answered His call. We can too when we follow and obey Him."
Do you agree? What's your story and call? Check it out and let me know what you think. Also, post comments on my article and the entire magazine on Light & Life's facebook page: facebook.com/fmcusa. They love the interaction!
